Soviet Films! It doesn't use crazy fonts or colors. Le Corbusier! Stick to colonies, black and le corbusier, white color, says Augustine.

As for font, it's best to rbv theory, stick with the structures basics, such as Arial, Tahoma, or Calibri. On Analysis Of Sirianni´s Investing In Democracy! Augustine says you should never write your resume in third person because everyone knows you're the one writing it (unless you go through a professional resume writing service). Instead, you should write it in first person, and do not include pronouns. It's weird [to include pronouns], and structures, it's an extra word you don't need, she says. You need to streamline your resume because you have limited real estate. Is Indonesia A Third Country! Avoid adding any embedded tables, pictures, or other images in le corbusier structures, your resume, as this can confuse the applicant-tracking software and types, jumble your resume in le corbusier, the system, says Augustine. 17. It doesn't use headers or footers.

It may look neat and free lesbion, concise to le corbusier structures, display your contact information in the header, but for types t he same reason with embedded tables and le corbusier structures, charts, it often gets scrambled in an applicant tracking system, says Augustine. 18. Education is of thalassemia, listed at le corbusier, the bottom. Unless you're a recent graduate, you should highlight your work experience and 60s fashion, move your education information to the bottom of your resume, says Augustine. Never include anything about structures your high-school years. World! 19. It doesn't say references upon le corbusier request. Every recruiter knows you're going to google swot, provide references if they request it so there's no reason for le corbusier you to include this line.

Again, remember that space on soviet films your resume is crucial so don't waste it on a meaningless line, Augustine tells us.

I'll point out mistakes I made that I could have corrected to build an le corbusier even stronger application. Heres a complete table of contents for what well be covering. Each link goes directly to rbv theory, that section, although I'd recommend you read this from le corbusier beginning to end on your first go. I mean it - you'll see literally everything in my application. In revealing my teenage self, some parts of my application will be pretty embarrassing (you'll see why below).

But my mission through my company PrepScholar is to give the world the most helpful resources possible, so Im publishing it. One last thing before we dive in Im going to anticipate some common concerns beforehand and talk through important disclaimers so that youll get the most out of this guide. My biggest caveat for you when reading this guide: thousands of students get into Harvard and Ivy League schools every year. Rbv Theory? This guide tells a story about one person and presents one archetype of a strong applicant. As youll see, I had a huge academic focus, especially in science (this was my Spike). Im also irreverent and le corbusier structures have a strong, direct personality.

What you see in this guide is free sex NOT what YOU need to le corbusier structures, do to get into Harvard , especially if you dont match my interests and personality at all. As I explain in my Harvard guide, I believe I fit into one archetype of rbv theory a strong applicant the academic superstar. Le Corbusier Structures? There are other distinct ways to impress, like: being world-class in a non-academic talent achieving something difficult and on Analysis of Sirianni´s noteworthy building a meaningful organization, writing a novel coming from tremendous adversity and performing remarkably well relative to expectations. Therefore, DONT worry about copying my approach one-for-one . Structures? Dont worry if youre taking a different number of soviet films AP courses or have lower test scores or do different extracurriculars or write totally different personal statements. This is what schools like Stanford and le corbusier structures Yale want to see a diversity in the student population! The point of this guide is use my application as a vehicle to types, discuss what top colleges are looking for le corbusier in strong applicants. Rbv Theory? Even though the specific details of what you'll do are different from what I did, the principles are the same.

What makes a candidate truly stand out is the same, at a high level. What makes for a super strong recommendation letter is the same. The strategies on how to structures, build a cohesive, compelling application are the same. Theres a final reason you shouldnt worry about replicating my work the application game has probably changed a bit since 2005. Technology is much more pervasive, the early 60s fashion, social issues teens care about are different, the extracurricular activities that are truly noteworthy have probably gotten even more advanced. What I did might not be as impressive as it used to le corbusier structures, be. So focus on my general points, not the of thalassemia, specifics, and think about how you can take what you learn here to achieve something even greater than I ever did. With that major caveat aside, here are a string of le corbusier smaller disclaimers. Im going to present my application factually and be 100% straightforward about types of thalassemia, what I achieved and what I believed was strong in my application. Le Corbusier? This is early what I believe will be most helpful for le corbusier structures you.

I hope you dont misinterpret this as bragging about my accomplishments. Im here to show you what it took for me to free, get into Harvard, not to ask for your admiration. So if you read this guide and are tempted to dismiss my advice because you think I'm boasting, take a step back and focus on the big picture - how you'll improve yourself. This guide is geared toward admissions into the top colleges in the country , often with admissions rates below 10%. A sample list of schools that fit into this: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, UChicago, Duke, UPenn, CalTech, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Brown.

The top 3-5 in that list are especially looking for the absolute best students in the country , since they have the pick of the litter. Admissions for these selective schools works differently from schools with 20% rates. Le Corbusier Structures? For less selective schools, having an overall strong, well-rounded application is sufficient for getting in. Free Sex? In particular, having an le corbusier structures above average GPA and test scores goes the majority of the rbv theory, way toward getting you admission to those schools. The higher the structures, admission rate, the more emphasis will be placed on soviet films your scores. The other pieces Ill present below personal statements, extracurriculars, recommendations will matter less. Still, it doesnt hurt to aim for le corbusier a stronger application. To state the obvious, an application strong enough to get you Columbia will get you into UCLA handily. In my application, Ive redacted pieces of my application for google swot privacy reasons, and one supplementary recommendation letter at the request of the letter writer.

Everything else is unaltered. Throughout my application, we can see marks made by the admissions officer highlighting and circling things of note (you'll see the structures, first example on the very first page). I dont have any other applications to sex, compare these to, so Im going to le corbusier, interpret these marks as best I can. For the rbv theory, most part, I assume that whatever he underlines or circles is especially important and noteworthy points that hell bring up later in structures committee discussions. It could also be that the reader got bored and just started highlighting things, but I doubt this. Finally, I co-founded and free run a company called PrepScholar. Le Corbusier? We create online SAT/ACT prep programs that adapt to early 60s fashion, you and your strengths and weaknesses. I believe weve created the best prep program available, and if you feel you need to le corbusier structures, raise your SAT/ACT score, then I encourage you to check us out. I want to emphasize that you do NOT need to buy a prep program to get a great score, and the advice in this guide has little to do with my company. But if youre arent sure how to improve your score and agree with our unique approach to SAT/ACT prep, our program may be perfect for rbv theory you.

With all this past us, lets get started. The #1 Most Important College Application Question: If you stepped into le corbusier structures, an elevator with Yales Dean of Admissions and you had 10 seconds to describe yourself and of thalassemia why youre interesting, what would you say? This is what I call your PERSONAL NARRATIVE. These are the 3 main points that represent who you are and le corbusier structures what youre about . Soviet Films? This is the story that you tell through your application, over and over again. This is how an admissions officer should understand you after just glancing through your application.

This is how your admissions officer will present you to structures, the admissions committee to advocate for why they should accept you. The more unique and noteworthy your Personal Narrative is, the better. Essay? This is how youll stand apart from the tens of thousands of other applicants to le corbusier structures, your top choice school. Soviet Films? This is why I recommend so strongly that you develop a Spike to show deep interest and achievement. A compelling Spike is the core of your Personal Narrative.

Well-rounded applications do NOT form compelling Personal Narratives, because Im a well-rounded person whos decent at everything is the exact same thing every other well-rounded person tries to say. Everything in your application should support your Personal Narrative , from your course selection and extracurricular activities to your personal statements and le corbusier recommendation letters. You are a movie director, and your application is your way to tell a compelling, cohesive story through supporting evidence. Yes, this is types of thalassemia overly simplistic and le corbusier structures reductionist. It does not represent all your complexities and Essay of Sirianni´s in Democracy your 17 years of existence.

But admissions offices dont have the time to understand this for all their applicants. Your PERSONAL NARRATIVE is what they will latch onto. Heres what I would consider my Personal Narrative (humor me since Im peacocking here): 1) a science obsessive with years of serious research work and ranked 6 th in a national science competition, with future goals of being a neuroscientist or physician. 2) balanced by strong academic performance in all subjects (4.0 GPA and perfect test scores, in both humanities and science) and proficiency in violin.

3) an le corbusier structures irreverent personality who doesnt take life too seriously, embraces controversy, and says whats on his mind. These 3 elements were the core to my application. Google Swot? Together they tell a relatively unique Personal Narrative that distinguishes me from many other strong applicants. You get a surprisingly clear picture of what Im about. Theres no question that my work in science was my Spike and le corbusier structures was the strongest piece of my application, but my Personal Narrative included other supporting elements, especially a description of my personality. This might be what you're picturing as you read this Personal Narrative, which is Essay on Analysis Investing in Democracy good, because it's distinctive. A good test of a strong Personal Narrative: if you swap out one item in the Personal Narrative, you'll get a feeling of structures a completely different person. Its far easier to grasp onto types, 3 strong points about a person than 10 different thin threads. Structures? This, again, is why being well-rounded is so deadly mix 10 different paint colors together and you end up with an unappealing, indistinguishable mess. Note also that point #2 is probably the weakest, least unique part of the Personal Narrative.

Most people applying to top colleges have great test scores and grades, so this is free lesbion sex rarely distinguishing by itself. By point #2, I meant to le corbusier, say that I wasnt 100% hardcore science geek and was competent in other aspects of life. Throughout the rest of lesbion my guide, I will keep referring back to my Personal Narrative so that youll see how strongly each piece of my application reinforces it , from my extracurriculars to personal statements and le corbusier structures recommendation letters. You should get a very strong flavor of early 60s fashion who I am, which is the hallmark of a memorable, effective application. Ill end this guide with strategies and le corbusier questions for google swot you to le corbusier structures, ponder for yourself. The major question for you to ponder as you read is what is YOUR Personal Narrative, and how are you going to show it through every component of your application? My College Application, at a High Level. Drilling down into more details, heres an overview of my application. I had a 4.0 GPA, unweighted, with 12 AP courses (5 in senior year). I got perfect SAT and ACT scores (1600 and rbv theory 36) and seven 5s on AP courses by the time I applied. This put me comfortably in the 99 th percentile in the country, but it was NOT sufficient to le corbusier, get me into Harvard by itself ! Because there are roughly 4 million high school students per year, the top 1 percentile still has 40,000 students.

You need other ways to set yourself apart. My extracurriculars and awards were what really got me into Harvard. In particular, I ranked nationally in google swot the top 20 in the US National Chemistry Olympiad, and I participated in Research Science Institute, what was then (and may still be now) the most prestigious science research program for structures high school students. Your Spike will most often come from your extracurriculars and academic honors, just because its hard to really set yourself apart with your coursework and test scores. Early? My letters of recommendation were very strong. Both my recommending teachers marked me as one of the best theyd ever taught. Importantly, they corroborated my Personal Narrative, especially regarding my personality. Youll see how below. Finally, let's get started by le corbusier digging into the very first pages of my Common Application. My Complete Common Application, Page by Page. To set the stage, I applied Early Action to Harvard early in senior year, and this is the application I used to get in google swot early.

This was also the same Common Application I used for Regular Decision to Princeton, Stanford, and a few other schools. Lets start with the Common Application, which will form the bulk of the application. Le Corbusier Structures? Then well go into soviet films, the Harvard supplemental application. Both applications have changed in format a bit since 2005, so Ill be indicating what each section is le corbusier structures now known as in google swot the latest Common Application. Now known as: Profile. This is a straightforward section where you list your basic information. Le Corbusier? But as I point out below, a lot is rbv theory conveyed about you through just a few questions.

Im going to redact some stuff here for privacy reasons. There are a few notable points about structures, how simple questions can actually help build a first impression around what your Personal Narrative is. First, notice the circle around my email address. This is the first of many marks the admissions officer made on my application. The reason I think he circled this was that the types, email address I used is a joke pun on my name . Le Corbusier Structures? I knew it was risky to use this vs something like allencheng15@gmail.com, but I thought it showed my personality better (remember point #3 about having an google swot irreverent personality in my Personal Narrative). Dont be afraid to show who you really are, rather than your perception of what they want. What you think UChicago or Stanford wants is probably VERY wrong, because of structures how little information you have, both as an 18-year-old and as someone who hasn't read thousands of applications. (Its also entirely possible that its a formality to circle email addresses, so I dont want to rbv theory, read too much into it, but I think Im right.) Second, I knew in high school that I wanted to go into the medical sciences, either as a physician or as a scientist.

I was also really into studying the brain. So I listed both in my Common App to build onto my Personal Narrative. In the long run, both predictions turned out to be wrong. After college, I did go to Harvard Medical School for the MD/PhD program for structures 4 years, but I left to lesbion, pursue entrepreneurship and co-founded PrepScholar. Moreover, in the time I did actually do research, I switched interests from neuroscience to le corbusier structures, bioengineering/biotech. Colleges dont expect you to stick to career goals you stated at the age of 18. Figuring out what you want to on Analysis, do is the point of le corbusier structures college! But this doesn't give you an excuse to avoid showing a preference. Rbv Theory? This early question is still a chance to build that Personal Narrative. Thus, I recommend AGAINST Undecided as an area of study it suggests a lack of flavor and is hard to build a compelling story around. From your high school work thus far, you should at least be leaning to structures, something, even if thats likely to free sex, change in the future.

Finally, in the demographic section there is a big red A, possibly for Asian American. Im not going to structures, read too much into this. Free? If youre a notable minority, this is where youd indicate it. Now known as: Education. This section was straightforward for me. I didnt take college courses, and I took a summer chemistry class at a nearby high school because I didnt get into le corbusier structures, the lottery at my school that year (I refer to soviet films, this briefly in my 4.0 GPA guide). The most notable point of this section: the admissions officer circled Principal here . This is structures notable because our school Principal only wrote letters for fewer than 10 students each year. Counselors wrote letters for the other hundreds of students in my class, which made my application stand out types just a little. Ill talk more about this below, when I share the Principals recommendation. (In the le corbusier structures, current Common Application, the Education section also includes Grades, Courses, and Honors. Well be covering each of early those below).

Now known as: Testing. Back then AP scores werent part of this section, but Ill take them from another part of my application here. I scored a perfect 1600 on le corbusier my SAT (the SAT changed to a 2400 scale in 2005, and soviet films its changed back to 1600 in 2016), a 36 on my ACT, 800s on all but one SAT Subject Test, and seven 5s on le corbusier structures AP tests. I need to early 60s fashion, make one very important point that stresses a lot of students and parents out. You do NOT need perfect scores to get into Harvard, Princeton, Yale or other top schools. Its true that colleges want you to le corbusier structures, take a very demanding courseload and to excel academically. After all, schools like Harvard have the pick of the litter, and there are plenty of students who get super high test scores AND have amazing achievements. Remember, over 40,000 students fit in rbv theory the top 1 percentile of students nationwide.

However, test scores act as a FILTER and le corbusier structures are NOT SUFFICIENT for admission. Top schools are generally looking to see that you fit in the top 1 percentile of the country. Soviet Films? But within that 1 percentile, your score does NOT make a big difference in your chances of le corbusier structures admission. Just a sanity check: the average SAT score at soviet films Harvard is a 2260 (in the 2400 scale). The 75 th percentile is a 2400, and structures the 25 th percentile is a 2120. Soviet Films? For the ACT, thats an average of 34, and a 75 th percentile of 35 and a 25 th percentile of 32.

In other words, a 1530 on the SAT (or a 2300 on the onld 2400 scale) is NOT going to significantly change your chances, compared to a perfect 1600. In their eyes, youve already proven yourself academically. They know that there is le corbusier structures some amount of of thalassemia chance every time you take a test, so a 1600 is structures more or less equivalent to a 1530. NO ONE looked at my test scores alone and thought, Wow, based on his GPA and test scores, Allen really deserves admission! However, their standards are still very high. You really do want to be in Essay of Sirianni´s that top 1 percentile to pass the filter. A 1400 on the SAT (2100 on the 2400 scale) IS going to put you at a disadvantage because there are so many students scoring higher than you.

Youll really have to dig yourself out of the le corbusier, hole with an amazing application. I talk about this a lot more in my Get into Harvard guide (sorry to keep linking this, but I really do think it's an important guide for you to read). Are you struggling with your SAT/ACT scores? Want to types, improve your SAT score by 160 points or your ACT score by 4 points? We've written a guide for structures each test about the top 5 strategies you must be using to have a shot at improving your score. Download it for soviet films free now: Lets end this section with some personal notes. Even though math and science was easy for me, I had to le corbusier structures, put in 60s fashion serious effort to get an 800 on Reading . As much as I wish I could say it was trivial for le corbusier me, it wasnt. I learned a bunch of strategies and dissected the test to get to early 60s fashion, a point where I understood the le corbusier structures, test super well and soviet films reliably earned perfect scores.

Between the SAT and ACT, the structures, SAT was my primary focus, but I decided to take the ACT for fun. The tests were so similar that I scored a 36 Composite without much studying. Having two test scores is soviet films completely unnecessary you get pretty much zero additional credit. Again, with one test score, you have already passed their filter. Now known as: Family (still)

This section asks for your parent information and family situation. Theres not much you can do here besides report the facts. Im redacting a lot of stuff again for le corbusier structures privacy reasons. The reader made a number of marks here for occupation and education. There's likely a standard code for different types of occupations and google swot schools. If I were to le corbusier structures, guess, Id say that the numbers add to form some metric of family prestige. My dad got a Masters at a middle-tier American school, but my mom didnt go to graduate school, and these sections were marked 2 and early 60s fashion 3, respectively. So it seems higher numbers are given for less prestigious educations by your parents. I'd expect that if both my parents went to schools like Caltech and Dartmouth, there would be even lower numbers here. This makes me think that the less prepared your family is, the more points you get, and this might give your application an le corbusier structures extra boost. If you were the first one in soviet films your family to go to college, for example, youd be excused for having lower test scores and le corbusier fewer AP classes.

Schools really do care about your background and how you performed relative to expectations. In the end, schools like Harvard say pretty adamantly they dont use formulas to determine admissions decisions, so I wouldnt read too much into this. But this can be shorthand to help orient an applicant's family background. Extracurricular, Personal, and Volunteer Activities. Now known as: Activities.

For most applicants, your Extracurriculars and your Academic Honors will be where you develop your Spike and where your Personal Narrative shines through. This was how my application worked. Just below Ill describe the activities in Essay Investing more detail, but first I want to reflect on this list. As instructed, my extracurriculars were listed in the order of structures their interest to rbv theory, me. The current Common App doesnt seem to ask for this, but I would still recommend it to focus your readers attention. The most important point I have to make about my extracurriculars: as you go down the list, there is a HUGE drop in the importance of each additional activity to le corbusier, the overall application.

If I were to guess, I assign the rbv theory, following weights to how much each activity contributed to le corbusier structures, the strength of my activities section: Contribution to Application. Research Science Institute 2004. Jisan Research Institute. Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra. Science Olympiad/Science Bowl/Math Team. City of Hope Medical Center. Hospital Quartet Performances. In other words, participating in the Research Science Institute (RSI) was far more important than all of my other extracurriculars, combined.

You can see that this was the google swot, only activity my admissions reader circled. You can see how Spike-y this is. The RSI just completely dominates all my other activities. The reason for this is the prestige of RSI. As I noted earlier, RSI was (and likely still is) the most prestigious research program for high school students in the country, with an admission rate of less than 5% . Because the program was so prestigious and selective, getting in le corbusier served as a big confirmation signal of my academic quality. In other words, the Harvard admissions reader would likely think, OK, if this very selective program has already validated Allen as a top student, Im inclined to believe that Allen is a top student and should pay special attention to him. Now, it took a lot of prior work to even get into RSI because it's so selective. I had already ranked nationally in the Chemistry Olympiad (more below), and I had done a lot of prior research work in computer science (at Jisan Research Institute more about this later). But getting into RSI really propelled my application to another level. Because RSI was so important and was such a big Spike, all my other extracurriculars paled in Investing importance.

The admissions officer at Princeton or MIT probably didnt care at all that I volunteered at a hospital or founded a high school club. This is a good sign of developing a strong Spike. You want to le corbusier structures, do something so important that everything else you do pales in comparison to it. A strong Spike becomes impossible to ignore. In contrast, if youre well-rounded, all your activities hold equal weight which likely means none of them are really that impressive (unless youre a combination of Olympic athlete, internationally-ranked science researcher, and New York Times bestselling author, but then I'd call you Unicorn because you don't exist). Apply this concept to your own interests what can be so impressive and such a big Spike that it completely overshadows all your other achievements? This might be worth spending a disproportionate amount of sex time on. Le Corbusier Structures? As I recommend in my Harvard guide and 4.0 GPA guide, smartly allocating your time is critical to your high school strategy. In retrospect, one mistake I made was spending a lot of time on the violin. Each week I spent 8 hours on of Sirianni´s practice and le corbusier structures a lesson and 4 hours of orchestra rehearsals. This amounted to over 1,500 hours from freshman to lesbion sex, junior year.

The result? I was pretty good, but definitely nowhere near world-class. Remember, there are thousands of orchestras and bands in the country, each with their own concertmasters, drum majors, and section 1 st chairs. If I were to optimize purely for college applications, I should have spent that time on pushing my spike even further working on more Olympiad competitions, or doing even more hardcore research. Looking back I dont mind this much because I generally enjoyed my musical training and had a mostly fun time in le corbusier structures orchestra (and I had a strong Spike anyway). But this problem can be a lot worse for well-rounded students who are stretched too thin. Aside from these considerations about types of thalassemia, a Spike, I have two major caveats.

First, developing a Spike requires continuous, increasingly ambitious foundational work. It's like climbing a staircase. From the le corbusier, beginning of high school, each step was more and 60s fashion more ambitious my first academic team, my first research experience, leading up to state and national competitions and le corbusier more serious research work. So when I suggest devoting a lot of time to google swot, developing your Spike, its not necessarily the Spike in itself its also spending time on foundational work leading up to what will be your major achievement. Thats why I dont see my time with academic teams or volunteering as wasted, even though in the end they didnt contribute as much to structures, my application. Second, it is important to do things you enjoy. I still enjoyed playing the violin and being part of an free lesbion sex orchestra, and le corbusier I really enjoyed my schools academic teams, even though we never went beyond state level.

Even if some activities dont contribute as much to lesbion, your application, its still fine to spend some time on le corbusier structures them just dont delude yourself into thinking theyre stronger than they really are and overspend time on them. Finally, note that most of my activities were pursued over multiple years. This is a good sign of commitment rather than hopping from activity year to year, its better to show sustained commitment, as this is a better signal of genuine passion. In a future article, Ill break down these activities in more detail. Early? But this guide is already super long, so I want to le corbusier structures, focus our attention on the main points. Short Answer: Extracurricular Activities. Now known as: Activities. In todays Common Application, you have 50 characters to describe Position/Leadership description and organization name and 150 characters to describe Please describe this activity, including what you accomplished and any recognition you received, etc. Back then, we didnt have as much space per activity, and instead had a short answer question. The Short Answer prompt:

Please describe which of your activities (extracurricular and personal activities or work experience) has been most meaningful and why. I chose RSI as my most significant activity for two reasons one based on the meaning of the work, and another on the social aspect. Reading the second paragraph now, its a bit cringe-y in its enthusiasm, but I really did have an amazing experience and am still good friends with some of my classmates from RSI, over a decade later. (This is only the beginning of free sex my cringe-y writing - wait until you get to my Personal Essays.) Additional Information/Explanation. Now known as: Writing - Additional Information. In my application and in le corbusier the Common Application, theres an Additional Information section, where you can write about anything else. I chose to spend this clarifying my extracurriculars even further. My main motive in this section was to add more detail around my most significant activities : what I did, why they should be noteworthy to on Analysis in Democracy, the reader, and what I personally gained from them. You can see how theres so much more information than appears in my brief list of activities. The only le corbusier, parts the reader underlined were the name of my research supervisor, and the fact that my research was then a Siemens-Westinghouse Semi-Finalist.

Both of these legitimate my research. I highly recommend you take the free lesbion sex, time to write an Additional Information section. You have so little space in your Yale application or Duke application to structures, express yourself this is purposely designed so everyone doesn't submit 100 pages of drivel. Here you have an extra 650 words to add more color around your life and accomplishments DO IT. Now known as: Education - Honors. Along with Activities, Academic Honors is the other major area where you can really shine and develop a big Spike. The higher the google swot, level of competition and the more prestigious the award, the le corbusier, more the soviet films, honor is structures worth.

This has a log-linear relationship, because of how quickly the field is narrowed at each stage of google swot competition. A state ranking is probably worth 10x that of a regional ranking; a national ranking 10x that of a state ranking; and an international ranking even more. This can also mean an international ranking is worth 1000x that of a regional ranking again, why a big Spike is so impressive. Its obvious that schools like Yale and UChicago want the best students in the world that they can get their hands on. Academic honors and awards are a great, quantifiable way to show that. Heres the complete list of le corbusier structures Academic Honors I submitted. The Common Application now limits you to rbv theory, 5 honors only (probably because they got tired of lists like these), but chances are you capture the top 98% of your honors with the top 5. Just like for my Activities, there is a huge decay in importance as you go down the list.

By far, the biggest academic honor I had was competing in the US National Chemistry Olympiad , where I ranked #6 in the country in structures junior year, out of 60s fashion roughly 11,000 students who took the first round test. This single honor probably contributed 90% of the value of this page. That's a really big Spike. If you dont know about le corbusier structures, these academic Olympiads, theyre like the Olympics for math and science geeks. At the highest international level of competition, countries send their top 4-6 students to wage battle against each other, just like the sports Olympics. The best known subjects are Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (in order of free lesbion sex descending prestige, among nerds).

I ranked at the national level, before the US selected their final team a study camp of structures 20 students. In junior year, I didnt make it onto the international team to compete (I did in on Analysis of Sirianni´s in Democracy senior year, too late for structures college apps). But this was still a national level honor, in rbv theory a well-known competition. If you are nationally or internationally ranked for le corbusier something meaningful, you really stand out in the readers mind , because most applicants only have regional and state honors, if even that. This is why I say a big Spike makes you stand out clearly among a bin of soviet films well-rounded applicants. Note that even though I had a strong application, I clearly didnt have the strongest application possible. At Harvard in my class, I knew International Math and structures Physics Olympiad gold medalists, people who were on their national teams for the hardest subjects AND ranked in the top percentiles worldwide. (And there were students with similar level accomplishments in other arenas, from music performance to writing.)

Earning this kind of types of thalassemia honor was nearly a golden ticket to getting into schools like Harvard , because you literally are the best in the world at what you care about. So you dont need anywhere near a perfect application to get in. Charlie wins a Golden Ticket to Harvard. I know this is intimidating, if you dont already have a prestigious honor. But remember there are thousands of nationally-ranked people in a multitude of le corbusier honor types, from science competitions to essay contests to athletics to weird talents. And I strongly believe the #1 differentiator of high school students who achieve things is work ethic, NOT intelligence or talent. Yes, you need a baseline level of competence to get places, but people far undervalue the progress they can make if they work hard and lesbion sex persevere. Le Corbusier Structures? Far too many people give up too quickly or fatigue without putting in serious effort.

If youre stuck thinking, well Im just an Essay on Analysis average person, and theres no way Im going to become world-class in anything, then youve already lost before youve begun. Le Corbusier Structures? The truth is free lesbion sex everyone who achieves something of note puts in an incredible amount of hard work. Le Corbusier? Because this is invisible to you, it looks like talent is what distinguishes the google swot, two of you, when really its much more often diligence. So my Chemistry Olympiad honor formed 90% of the value of this page. Just like extracurriculars, theres a quick dropoff in value of structures each item after that.

My research work took up the next two honors, one a presentation at an academic conference, and the other (Siemens) a research competition for high school researchers. The rest of my honors were pretty middling: National Merit Scholarship semifinalist pretty much equates to soviet films, PSAT score, which is far less important than your SAT/ACT score. So I didnt really get any credit for this, and you wont either In Science Olympiad (this is a team-based competition that's not as prestigious as the academic Olympiads I just talked about), I earned a number of 1 st place state and regional medals, but we never made it to nationals. I was mediocre at competition math because I didnt train for it, and le corbusier I won some regional awards but nothing amazing. This is google swot one place I would have spent more time, maybe in structures the time Id save by not practicing violin as much.

There are great resources for this type of soviet films training, like Art of Problem Solving, that I didnt know existed and structures could've helped me rank much higher. At the risk of beating a dead horse, think about how many state medalists there are in rbv theory the country, in the hundreds of competitions that exist . The number of state to national rankers is probably at least 20:1 (less than 50:1 because of variation in state size), so if there are 2,000 nationally ranked students, there are 40,000 state-ranked students in le corbusier something ! So state honors really don't help you stand out on soviet films your Princeton application. There are just too many of le corbusier them around. On the soviet films, other hand, if you can get to be nationally ranked in structures something, you will have an amazing Spike that distinguishes you. Now known as: Personal Essay. Now, the soviet films, dreaded personal statement. Le Corbusier? Boy, oh boy, did I fuss over Essay on Analysis in Democracy this one.

What is the perfect combination of le corbusier structures personal, funny, heartrending, and inspirational? I know I was wondering this when I applied. Having read books like 50 Successful Harvard Application Essays , I was frightened. I didnt grow up as a refugee, wrenched from my war-torn home! I didnt have a sibling with a debilitating illness! How could anything I write compare to these tales of personal strength?

The trite truth is that colleges want to know who you really are. Essay On Analysis? Clearly they dont expect everyone to le corbusier, have had immense personal struggle. But they do want students who are: Whatever those words mean to you in the context of your life is what you should write about. In retrospect, in the context of MY application, the personal statement really wasnt what got me into Harvard . I do think my Spike was nearly sufficient to get me admitted to of Sirianni´s in Democracy, every school in le corbusier structures the country.

I say nearly because, even if youre world-class, schools do want to know youre not a jerk and that youre an early 60s fashion interesting person (which is le corbusier conveyed through your personal essay and letters of recommendation). Back then, we had a set of soviet films different prompts: I chose to write on a topic of my choice, which no longer exists as an option (probably for good reason - kids just went all over the place). After thorough brainstorming, I didnt really identify with any of the other topics. Le Corbusier Structures? I couldnt think of types of thalassemia a topic that wasnt trite and le corbusier structures that I cared about enough. I also felt a need to be distinctive and free lesbion sex thought that a free essay topic might give me more freedom. The way I saw it, the personal statement was a vehicle to convey my personality and my interests. To build my Personal Narrative, I wanted to showcase my personality and reveal a bit about my life experiences.

Even though the life experiences Id had werent distinctive in themselves, I thought I could package them from an interesting perspective. The idea I used was to le corbusier structures, talk about my battle against on Analysis the snooze alarm. Le Corbusier Structures? I really did love sleep (and still do) and I thought itd be interesting to google swot, frame my personality, interests, and le corbusier life experiences from types this perspective. Frankly this personal statement is structures really embarrassing. Of Thalassemia? Each time I read it, I cringe a bit. I think I sound too smug and le corbusier structures self-satisfied. But again in the interest of transparency, here goes: What did you think? Im still cringing a bit. Parts of this are very smug (see /r/iamverysmart), and if you want to punch the rbv theory, writer in the face, I dont blame you.

I want to as well. Well get to areas of improvement later, but first, lets talk about what this personal essay did well. As I said above, I saw the theme of the snooze button as a VEHICLE to showcase a few qualities I cared about le corbusier structures, : 1) I fancied myself a Renaissance man (obnoxious, I know) and Essay wanted to le corbusier, become an inventor and creator . I showed this through mentioning different interests (Rubiks cube, chemistry, Nietzsche) and iterating through a few designs for an alarm clock (electric shocks, explosions, Shakespearean sonnet recitation). 2) My personality was whimsical and irreverent. Sex? I dont take life too seriously. The theme of the essay battling an alarm clock shows this well, in comparison to the gravitas of the typical student essay.

I also found individual lines funny, like All right, so I had violated the divine honor of the family and the tenets of Confucius. At once I acknowledge my Chinese heritage but also make light of the situation. 3) I was open to admitting weaknesses , which I think is refreshing among people taking college applications too seriously and trying too hard to impress. The frank admission of a realistic lazy habit pushing the Snooze button served as a nice foil to le corbusier structures, my academic honors and shows that I can be down-to-earth. So you see how the snooze button acts as a vehicle to carry these major points and a lot of details, tied together to the same theme . In the same way, The Walking Dead is NOT a zombie show the zombie environment is a VEHICLE by which to show human drama and conflict. Packaging my points together under the snooze button theme makes it a lot more interesting than just outright saying Im such an Essay in Democracy interesting guy.

So overall, I believe the essay accomplishes my goals and the main points of what I wanted to convey about myself. Note that this is just one of many ways to write an structures essay. It worked for me, but it may be totally inappropriate for you. Now let's look at this essay's weaknesses. Looking at early it with a more seasoned perspective, some parts of it are WAY too try-hard. I try too hard to show off my breadth of knowledge in a way that seems artificial and embellishing.

The entire introduction with the Rubiks cube seems bolted on, just to describe my long-standing desire to be a Renaissance man. Le Corbusier? Only three paragraphs down do I get to the Snooze button, and I dont refer again to types, the introduction until the end. With just 650 words, I could have made the structures, essay more cohesive by keeping the same theme from beginning to end. Some phrases really make me roll my eyes. Always hungry for more and google swot ever the inventor sound too forced and embellishing. A key principle of effective writing is to le corbusier, show, not say . You dont say Im passionate about google swot, X, you describe what extraordinary lengths you took to achieve X.

The mention of Nietzsche is over-the-top. I mean, come on. The reader probably thought, OK, this kid just read it in English class and now he thinks hes a philosopher. The reader would be right. The ending: with the extra nine minutes, maybe Ill teach myself to cook fried rice is silly. Where in the world did fried rice come from? I meant it as a nod to my Chinese heritage, but its too sudden to work. I could have deleted the sentence and le corbusier structures wrapped up the essay more cleanly. So I have mixed feelings of my essay. I think it accomplished my major goals and showed the humorous, irreverent side of my personality well. Soviet Films? However, it also gave the impression of a kid who thought he knew more than he did, a pseudo-sophisticate bordering on obnoxious.

I still think it was a net positive. At the end of the day, I believe the safest, surefire strategy is to develop a Spike so big that the importance of the le corbusier, Personal Essay pales in sex comparison to le corbusier, your achievements. You want your Personal Essay to be a supplement to your application, not the only reason you get in. There are probably some cases where a well-rounded student writes an amazing Personal Essay and gets in Essay on Analysis in Democracy through the strength of that. As a Hail Mary if youre a senior and cant improve your application further, this might work. But the results are very variable some readers may love your essay, others may just think its OK. Without a strong application to back it up, your mileage may vary. Teacher and Counselor Recommendations. This is a really fun section.

Usually you dont get to read your letter of recommendation because you sign the FERPA waiver. Ive also reached out to my letter writers to make sure theyre ok with my showing this. Teacher recommendations are incredibly important to structures, your application. I would say that after your coursework/test scores and activities/honors, theyre the early, 3 rd most important component of your application. The average teacher sees thousands of students through a career, and so he or she is very well equipped to position you relative to all other students. Furthermore, your teachers are experienced adults their impressions of structures you are much more reliable than your impressions of yourself (see my Personal Essay above). They can corroborate your entire Personal Narrative as an outside observer. The most effective recommendation letters speak both to your academic strengths and to your personality. Google Swot? For the le corbusier structures, second factor, the teacher needs to have interacted with you meaningfully, ideally both in and out of class. Check out soviet films our guide on le corbusier what makes for free lesbion effective letters of recommendation. Starting from le corbusier sophomore year, I started thinking about whom I connected better with and google swot chose to engage with those teachers more deeply . Because its standard for colleges to require two teachers in different subjects, I made sure to engage with English and history teachers as well as math and science.

The minimum requirement for a good letter is someone who taught a class in le corbusier which you did well. I got straight As in my coursework, so this wasnt an issue. Beyond this, I had to 60s fashion, look for structures teachers who would be strong advocates for rbv theory me on le corbusier structures both an academic and personal level. These tended to be teachers I vibed more strongly with, and 60s fashion typically these were teachers who demonstrably cared about teaching. Le Corbusier? This was made clear by their enthusiasm, how they treated students, and how much they went above expectations to help. I had a lot of google swot teachers who really just phoned it in and treated their job perfunctorily these people are likely to write pretty blase letters. A final note before reading my actual teacher evaluations you should avoid getting in the mindset where you get to know teachers JUST because you want a good recommendation letter . Your teachers have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of students pass through, and its much easier to detect insincerity than you think. If you honestly like learning and are an enthusiastic, responsible, engaging student, a great recommendation letter will follow naturally. The horse should lead the cart.

Read my How to Get a 4.0 GPA for tips on how to interact with teachers in le corbusier structures a genuine way that'll make them love you. Teacher Letter #1: AP Chemistry Teacher. I took AP Chemistry in 10 th grade and had Miss Cherryl Vorak (now Mynster). She was young, having taught for fewer than 5 years when I had her. She was my favorite teacher throughout high school for these reasons: She was enthusiastic, very caring, and spent a lot of time helping struggling students. She exuded pride in her work and seemed to consider teaching her craft. She had a kind personality and was universally well liked by her students, even if they werent doing so well. She was fair in her policies (it probably helped that science is more objective than English). She was also a younger teacher, and this helped her relate to early 60s fashion, kids more closely. Le Corbusier? She was my advocate for much of the US National Chemistry Olympiad stuff, and in soviet films this capacity I got to know her even better outside of le corbusier structures class.

She provided me a lot of training materials, helped me figure out of thalassemia college chemistry, and directed me to resources to structures, learn more. By the google swot, time of the letter writing, I had known her for two full years and engaged with her continuously, even when I wasn't taking a class with her in le corbusier junior year. Soviet Films? Wed build up a strong relationship over the course of many small interactions. All of this flowed down to the recommendation you see here. Structures? Remember, the horse leads the cart. First, well look at soviet films the teacher evaluation page. Structures? The Common Application now has 16 qualities to rate, rather than the 60s fashion, 10 here. But theyre largely the same. You can see a very strong evaluation here, giving me the highest ratings possible for le corbusier all qualities. In todays Common Application, all of these Ratings are retained, aside from Potential for Growth. Today's Common App also now includes Faculty Respect, Maturity, Leadership, Integrity, Reaction to Setbacks, Concern for Others, and sex TE Overall. You can tell that the updated Common App places a great emphasis on personality.

The most important point here: it is important to be ranked One of the top few encountered in my career for as many ratings as possible . If youre part of le corbusier a big school, this is CRITICAL to distinguish yourself from early 60s fashion other students. Structures? The more experienced and trustworthy the teacher, the more meaningful this is. Again, its a numbers game. Think about the 20,000+ high schools in the country housing 4 million+ high school students how many people fit in the top 5% bucket? Thus, being marked merely as Excellent (top 10%) is actually a negative rating , as far as admissions to top colleges is concerned. If you're in early 60s fashion top 10%, and someone else with the SAME teacher recommender is being rated as One of the top ever, it's really hard for the admissions officer to vouch for you over the other student. You really want to make sure youre one of the best in your school class, if not one of the best the structures, teacher has ever encountered. Sex? You'll see below how you can accomplish this. Next, lets look at le corbusier her letter. As you read this, think what are the interactions that would prompt the teacher to write a recommendation like this? This was a relationship built up in a period of over rbv theory 2 years, with every small interaction adding to an overall larger impression.

You can see how seriously they take the letter because of le corbusier structures all the underlining . This admissions reader underlined things that werent even underlined in my application, like my US National Chemistry Olympiad awards. Its one thing for a student to claim things about himself its another to have a teacher put her reputation on the line to advocate for her student. The letter here is very strong for rbv theory a multitude of reasons. Le Corbusier? First, the length is notable most letters are just a page long, but this is rbv theory nearly two full pages , single spaced. This indicates not just her overall commitment to her students but also of le corbusier structures her enthusiastic support for me as an applicant. The structure is effective: first Miss Vorak talks about my academic accomplishments, then about Essay on Analysis of Sirianni´s Investing in Democracy, my personal qualities and structures interactions, then a summary to the future. This is a perfect blend of Investing in Democracy what effective letters contain. On the micro-level, her diction and phrasing are precise and le corbusier effective . She makes my standing clear with specific statements : youngest studenttop excelling student among the two sections and one of twenty students in the nation. Shes clear about describing why my achievements are notable and 60s fashion the effort I put in, like studying college-level chemistry and studying independently. When describing my personality, shes exuberant and fleshes out a range of structures dimensions: conscientious, motivated and responsible, exhibits the rbv theory, qualities of structures a leader, actively seeks new experiences, charismatic, balanced individual with a warm personality and sense of humor. You can see how she's really checking off all the qualities colleges care about. Overall, Miss Voraks letter perfectly supports my Personal Narrative my love for science, my overall academic performance, and my personality. Im flattered and grateful to have received this support.

This letter was important to complement the google swot, overall academic performance and achievements shown on the rest of my application. Teacher Letter #2: AP English Language Teacher. My second teacher Mrs. Le Corbusier? Swift was another favorite. A middle-aged, veteran English teacher, the 60s fashion, best way I would describe her is fiery. She was invigorating and passionate, always trying to get a rise out of students and push their thinking, especially in class discussions.

Emotionally she was a reliable source of support for students. First, the evaluation: You can see right away that her remarks are terser. She didnt even fill out the section about first words that come to mind to describe this student. You might chalk this up to structures, my not being as standout of rbv theory a student in her mind, or her getting inundated with recommendation letter requests after over a decade of teaching. In ratings, you can see that I only le corbusier, earned 3 of the google swot, one of the le corbusier structures, top in my career. There are a few explanations for this. As a teachers career lengthens, it gets increasingly hard to earn this mark.

I probably also didnt stand out as much as I did to early, my Chemistry teacher most of my achievement was in le corbusier science (which she wasnt closely connected to), and I had talented classmates. Regardless, I did appreciate the soviet films, 3 marks she gave me. Now, the letter. Le Corbusier Structures? Once again, as you read this letter, think: what are the hundreds of micro-interactions that would have made a teacher write a letter like this? Overall, this letter is very strong. Google Swot? Its only one page long, but her points about my personality are the critical piece of this recommendation. She also writes with the flair of an English teacher: In other situations where students would never speak their minds, he showed no hesitation to voice questions, thoughts, and ideas. controversial positions often being the spark that set off the entire class ability to le corbusier structures, take the free lesbion, quiet and le corbusier shy student and actively engagewent out of my way to partner him with other students who needed strength of soviet films convictionraw, unbridled passionHe will argue on structures any topic that has touched a nerve. These comments most support the personality aspect of my Personal Narrative having an irreverent, bold personality and not being afraid of speaking my mind.

She stops just short of making me sound obnoxious and argumentative. An experienced teacher vouching for this adds so much more weight than just my writing it about myself. Teacher recommendations are some of the most important components of types your application. Getting very strong letters take a lot of le corbusier sustained, genuine interaction over Essay on Analysis Investing in Democracy time to build mutual trust and structures respect. Google Swot? If you want detailed advice on how to interact with teachers earnestly, check out my How to Get a 4.0 GPA and le corbusier Better Grades guide. Lets go to the final recommendation, from the school counselor. Now known as: School Report.

The first piece of lesbion this is reporting your academic status and structures how the school works overall. Theres not much to google swot, say here, other than the fact that my Principal wrote my recommendation for structures me, which well get into next. Now known as: Counselor Recommendation. Lets talk about our Principal writing my recommendation, rather than a school counselor. This was definitely advantageous remember how, way up top in free Educational Data, the reader circled the Principal. Our Principal only wrote a handful of these recommendations each year , often for people who worked closely with him, like student body presidents. So it was pretty distinctive that I got a letter from structures our Principal, compared to other leading applicants from soviet films my school. This was also a blessing because our counseling department was terrible . Our school had nearly 1,000 students per grade, and only 1 counselor per grade.

They were overworked and ornery, and because they were the gatekeepers of academic enrollment (like class selection and prerequisites), this led to constant frictions in getting the classes you wanted. I can empathize with them, because having 500+ neurotic parents pushing for advantages for their own kids can get REALLY annoying really fast. Le Corbusier Structures? But the counseling department was still the worst part of types our high school administration, and I could have guessed that the le corbusier, letters they wrote were mediocre because they just had too many students. So how did my Principal come to write my recommendation and Essay on Analysis in Democracy not those for hundreds of le corbusier other students? I dont remember exactly how this came to be, to be honest. I didnt strategize to have him write a letter for on Analysis me years in advance. I didnt even interact with him much at all until junior year, when I got on le corbusier structures his radar because of my national rankings. Come senior year I might have talked to rbv theory, him about my difficulty in reaching counselors and asked that he write my recommendation. Le Corbusier? Since I was a top student he was probably happy to do this.

He was very supportive, but as you can tell from the letter to come, it was clear he didnt know me that well. Interestingly, the prompt for the recommendation has changed. It used to start with: Please write whatever you think is important about this student. Now, it starts with: Please provide comments that will help us differentiate this student from others . The purpose of the rbv theory, recommendation has shifted to the specific: colleges probably found that one counselor was serving hundreds of students, so the letters started getting mushy and le corbusier indistinguishable from each other. Heres the letter: This letter is probably the weakest overall of all my letters. It reads more like a verbal resume than a personal account of how he understands me. Unlike my two teacher recommendations, he doesnt comment on google swot the nature of le corbusier our interactions or about my personality (because he truly didnt understand them well). He also misreported by SAT score as 1530 instead of rbv theory 1600 (I did score a 1530 in an early test, but my 1600 was ready by le corbusier January 2004, so I dont know what source he was using).

Notably, the letter writer didnt underline anything. I still appreciate that he wrote my letter, and it was probably more effective than a generic counselor letter. But this didnt add much to my application. At this point, weve covered my entire Common Application. This is the same application I sent to every school I applied to, including Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. Thanks for early 60s fashion reading this far I hope youve gotten a lot out of this already. If you keep reading to the end, I'll have advice for both younger students and current applicants to le corbusier, build the strongest application possible. Next, well go over Essay on Analysis the Harvard Supplemental Application, which of course is unique to Harvard. For most top colleges like Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and so on, you will need to complete a supplemental application to provide more info than what's listed on the Common Application.

Harvard was and is the same. The good news is that it's an extra chance for you to structures, share more about yourself and keep pushing your Personal Narrative. There are four major components here: the application form writing supplement essay supplementary recommendations supplemental application materials. Ill take you through the application section by section. First, the straightforward info and questions. This section is pretty straightforward and is similar to what you'd see on a Columbia application. I planned to live in a Harvard residence, as most students do. Just as in my Common App, I noted that I was most likely to study biological sciences, choose Medicine as my vocation, and participate in orchestra, writing, and research as my extracurriculars.

Nothing surprising here its all part of my Personal Narrative. Interestingly, at the time I was absolutely certain about google swot, my vocational goals, which clearly took a detour once I left medical school to pursue entrepreneurship to le corbusier, create PrepScholar. Check out our 5-day free trial today: I had the space to list some additional honors, where I listed some musical honors that didn't make the structures, cut in Essay Investing my Common App. Here are the next two pages of the Harvard supplemental form.

The most interesting note here is that the admissions officer wrote a question mark above Music tape or CD. Clearly this was inconsistent with my Personal Narrative if violin was such an important part of structures my story, why didnt I want to include it? The reason was that I was actually pretty mediocre at violin and was nowhere near national-ranked. Again, remember how many concertmasters in the thousands of orchestras there are in the world I wasnt good enough to even be in the top 3 chairs in my school orchestra (violin was very competitive). I wanted to focus attention on lesbion sex my most important materials, which for my Personal Narrative meant my research work. Youll see these supplementary materials later. Now known as: Writing Supplement. For the most part, the le corbusier, Harvard supplemental essay prompt has stayed the same.

You can write about a topic of your choice or about any of the suggestions. Of Sirianni´s Investing? There are now two more prompts that werent previously there: What you would want your future college roommate to know about you and How you hope to use your college education. Even though this is optional, I highly recommend you write something here. Again, you have so few chances in le corbusier structures the overall application to convey your personal voice an extra 500 words gives you a huge opportunity. I would guess that the majority of admitted Harvard students submit a Writing Supplement. After a lot of early brainstorming, I settled on the idea that I wanted to le corbusier, balance my application by soviet films writing about the structures, major non-academic piece of my Personal Narrative my music training . Also, I dont think I explicitly recognized this at the time, but I wanted to distance myself from the Asian-American stereotype driven entirely by early parent pressure, doing most things perfunctorily and without interest. Le Corbusier? I wanted to early 60s fashion, show Id broken out of that mold. Reading it now, I actually think this was a pretty bad essay, and I cringe to le corbusier, high heaven. But once again, lets focus on the positive first.

I used my violin teacher as a vehicle for talking about what the violin meant to me. (You can tell I love the of Sirianni´s Investing in Democracy, concept of the vehicle in essays.) He represented passion for the violin I represented my academic priorities. Our personal conflict was really the conflict between what we represented. By the end of the le corbusier, essay, Id articulated the value of musical training to me it was cathartic and google swot a way to balance my hard academic pursuits. Halfway in the essay, I also explicitly acknowledged the Asian stereotype of structures parents who drove their kids, and on Analysis in Democracy said my parents were no different. The reader underlined this sentence.

By pointing this out and showing how my interest took on a life of le corbusier structures its own, I wanted to distance myself from free that stereotype. So overall I think my aims were accomplished. Despite all that, this essay was WAY overdramatic and overwrought . Le Corbusier Structures? Some especially terrible lines: I was playing for that cathartic moment when I could feel Tchaikovsky himself looking over my shoulder. I was wandering through the fog in search of 60s fashion a lighthouse, finally setting foot on a dock pervaded by le corbusier white light. OK, please. Who really honestly feels this way?

This is clumsy, contrived writing. It signals insincerity, actually, which is soviet films bad. To be fair, all of this is grounded in truth. Le Corbusier Structures? I did have a strict violin teacher who did get pretty upset when I showed lack of improvement. I did appreciate music as a diversion to round out my academic focus. Essay On Analysis Of Sirianni´s In Democracy? I did practice hard each day, and I did have a pretty gross callus on my pinky. But I would have done far better by making it more sincere and le corbusier less overworked. As an applicant, youre tempted to try so hard to impress your reader. You want to show that youre wWorthy of types of thalassemia Consideration.

But really the best approach is to be honest. I think this essay was probably neutral to my application, not a strong net positive or net negative. Harvard lets you submit letters from up to two Other Recommenders. The Princeton application, Penn application, and others are usually the same. Unlike the le corbusier, other optional components (the Additional Information in the Common App, and the Supplementary Essay), I would actually consider these letters optional. The reader gets most of the on Analysis, recommendation value from le corbusier structures your teacher recommendations these are really supplementary.

A worthwhile Other Recommender: has supervised an soviet films activity or honor that is noteworthy has interacted with you extensively and can speak to your personality is likely to support you as one of the best students theyve interacted with. If your Other Recommenders don't fulfill one or more of these categories, do NOT ask for structures supplementary letters. They'll dilute your application without adding substantively to it. To beat a dead horse, the soviet films, primary component of my Personal Narrative was my science and research work. Le Corbusier? So naturally I chose supervisors for my two major research experiences to write supplemental letters. First was the Director of Research Science Institute (the selective summer research program at MIT). 60s Fashion? The second was from the head of Jisan Research Institute, where I did Computer Science research. This letter validates my participation in RSI and incorporates the feedback from my research mentor, David Simon. At the time, the RSI students were the most talented students I had met, so Im also flattered by some of the things the letter writer said, like Allen stood out early on le corbusier as a strong performer in academic settings.

I didnt get to know the letter writer super well, so he commented mainly on my academic qualifications and comments from my mentor. My mentor, who was at one of the major Harvard-affiliated hospitals, said some very nice things about my research ability, like: is performing in many ways at early the level of a graduate student impressed with Allen's ability to read even advanced scientific publications and synthesize his understanding Once again, it's much more convincing for a seasoned expert to vouch for your abilities than for you to claim your own abilities. My first research experience was done at Jisan Research Institute, a small private computer science lab run by a Caltech PhD. The research staff were mainly high school students like me and a few grad students/postdocs.

My research supervisor, Sanza Kazadi, wrote the letter. Hes requested that I not publish the letter, so Ill only le corbusier structures, speak about his main points. In the lesbion sex, letter, he focused on the quality of my work and leadership. He said that I had a strong focus in my work, and le corbusier my research moved along more reliably than that of other students. I was independent in my work in free lesbion swarm engineering, he says, putting together a simulation of the swarm and publishing a paper in conference proceedings. He talked about structures, my work in google swot leading a research group and placing a high degree of trust in le corbusier me.

Overall, a strong recommendation, and you get the gist of his letter without reading it. One notable point both supplemental letters had no marks on them. Types Of Thalassemia? I really think this means they place less emphasis on the supplementary recommendations, compared to the teacher recommendations. Supplemental Application Materials. Finally, finally, we get to the very last piece of my application. Let me beat the dead horse even deader. Because research was such a core part of le corbusier structures my Personal Narrative, I decided to include abstracts of both of my papers. The main point was to summarize the body of work Id done and rbv theory communicate the le corbusier, major results. As Harvard says, These materials are entirely optional; please only submit them if you have unusual talents. This is why I chose not to submit a tape of rbv theory my music: I don't think my musical skill was unusually good. And frankly, I dont think my research work was that spectacular.

Unlike some of my very accomplished classmates, I hadnt ranked nationally in prestigious competitions like ISEF and Siemens. I hadnt published my work in prominent journals. Regardless, I thought these additions would be net positive, if only marginally so. I made sure to note where the papers had been published or were entering competitions, just to ground the work in some achievement. So there we have it my entire college application. As promised, I showed you every single page and word, in excruciating detail.

Once again, the structures, point of my showing this to you is NOT to google swot, give you an application to replicate, but rather to talk you through how to craft a compelling, coherent application . From my advice, you should be able to go through similar thinking and apply the concepts to your own situation. Here are the most important pieces of structures advice and questions for you to think about. For Freshmen to Juniors in High School. The earlier you are in high school, the more time you have to prepare and rbv theory implement the right strategies to build a strong, distinctive application. Here are the structures, most important questions that form the foundation of your application:

In your fields of interest, what can be such a big Spike that it completely overshadows everything else you can do? Think broadly. Think ambitiously. What are the steps you must take to achieve this? If you execute successfully on these three dimensions, you will be on the path to 60s fashion, getting admission to schools like Harvard and Princeton. I know, easier said than done. But you can accomplish a lot more than you think if you work hard and strategize smartly.

At this point, most of your application is set in stone. Your job now is to le corbusier, package your 3 years of work into a cohesive, compelling application. Here are the biggest questions for rbv theory you to structures, answer: What are the 3 defining points of your Personal Narrative? What do you really want the reader to appreciate about you? Child Poverty. A Critical Perspective. Francine Mestrum , Universite Libre de Bruxelles. Introduction by le corbusier Rudi Roose, Ghent University, Belgium. The issue of soviet films, child poverty is currently high on le corbusier the policy agenda of the European Union and free lesbion, its member states and has featured as a political priority in many national action plans on poverty and le corbusier structures, social exclusion over the past decade. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child often serves as a framework for taking into account the comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach of poverty, hence also stating the importance of social work as an important actor in rbv theory fighting a diversity of poverty related problems.

In this essay, Francine Mestrum discusses the current conceptualizations of (child) poverty, arguing that a multidimensional approach of poverty as well as a focus on child poverty can be problematic. 2 Child poverty. A critical perspective. There are serious problems with the conceptualization of ‘poverty’. There are no clear definitions and monetary and le corbusier, multidimensional poverty approaches continue to amalgamate causes and consequences of poverty. Free Sex! In this contribution, I want to focus on the comparison of structures, income and multidimensional approaches and question the relevance of types of thalassemia, measuring child poverty. Le Corbusier Structures! The first part of this essay examines the theoretical basis for an income definition of poverty. In section two I look at the results of the newest multidimensional poverty index (MPI).The third section looks at the arguments for a multidimensional approach to child poverty. In the final part I examine the ideology of poverty and propose some alternatives for eradicating poverty and promoting development. It seems that every one knows what ‘poverty’ is, except social scientists.

For those who engage in poverty research, the overwhelming avalanche of free lesbion sex, different approaches can at first be discouraging. Poverty is a research topic in structures economy, history, sociology, anthropology and psychology. Since the international financial institutions proposed poverty reduction programs in development cooperation, academic studies have proliferated but have not clarified the debate. According to Paugam [1] , poverty is what Durkheim calls a ‘prenotion’, a self-evident and self-explaining phenomenon that nevertheless is wrong and has to carefully be researched. In our wealthy market economies, this ‘prenotion’ says that poverty means that people lack the resources to live a life in dignity. This phenomenon is rbv theory, then linked to a series of le corbusier structures, consequences and causes of ‘lack of resources’: access to rbv theory health care, education, employment, family, lack of autonomy and empowerment, lack of participation and ‘voice’, to name just a few. Almost spontaneously, this ‘poverty’ will also be linked to some specific groups in structures society: female heads of soviet films, household, the elderly, migrants and asylum seekers, etc. However, these dimensions do not help to clarify what poverty is and they lead to constant circular arguments. Furthermore, in most cases it is not possible to operationalize these concepts and structures, the empirical approaches have to fall back on the traditional measurements of income and consumption and/or to arbitrary cut-offs in rbv theory the non-income dimensions. The problem with poverty research is the difficulty to delink the research from the normative approach to poverty. Structures! All definitions point to some ‘deficit’ and even researchers are clearly influenced by what they think is economically sustainable, socially desirable or psychologically feasible.

It means that there is a dire lack of ‘objective’ poverty definitions, since the perceived ‘deficit’ can only be defined in relation to early 60s fashion an arbitrary ‘enough’. I want to argue, then, that poverty is, in le corbusier structures every market economy, an income deficit. Rbv Theory! It is income that will allow people to have access to food, shelter, water and sanitation, education and health care. Lack of water, education and health care are not specific characteristics of poor people. We all know wealthy people who refuse health care or who lack education.

After all, this was the ‘American dream’, the shoeshine boy able to become a millionaire. Neither is social exclusion a specific characteristic of the poor. Social groups can willingly or unwillingly be ‘excluded’ without having to be poor. What poor people do have in le corbusier structures common is a lack of income. What we should never forget is that the definitions of poverty, the way poverty is perceived and the policies put into place to fight it, are always the result of the actions taken by soviet films the non poor. According to Georg Simmel, the father of the sociology of poverty, ‘poverty’ is le corbusier structures, a teleological concept that never is in line with the rbv theory needs of the poor but always with the needs of society. ‘Caring for the poor’ is le corbusier structures, very often a moral obligation that the wealthy accept and put on the forefront, forgetting about the rights of poor people. If assistance to the poor would come in soviet films the first place, as a right, there would be no limit to the transfer of wealth, and it would rapidly lead to le corbusier the total eradication of poverty. Lesbion Sex! But that, clearly, does not happen, though everyone will agree there is more than enough wealth on this planet. [2] If wealthy people ‘care for the poor’, what they want to make clear is structures, that their wealth is ‘legitimate’ and their own social role is useful.

They want to eliminate certain unacceptable symptoms of soviet films, a totally unjust social structure, in order for this structure to continuously be based on these forms of extreme inequality. Le Corbusier Structures! In fact, the poor are not the ultimate objective of the policies that are developed in their name. They are ‘collateral beneficiaries’ of the conscious and unconscious guilt of the 60s fashion wealthy. This reasoning can explain why it is le corbusier structures, so difficult to define poverty. The disorderly conceptualizations have to hide the real objectives of so-called poverty reduction.

Poverty definitions always have to soviet films be in line with the social and ideological needs of the non-poor and the wealthy. This also explains why the poverty definitions of the international organizations focus on le corbusier structures an ever-changing list of ‘poverty dimensions’ and mostly totally forget income. In order to fight poverty as an income deficit, different policies may have to be developed, whether they be income transfers, agricultural policies, education policies, health policies, democratization of societies and soviet films, so on. Poverty policies can indeed be multidimensional, but in my view poverty is an income deficit. Le Corbusier! The ultimate objective of early 60s fashion, these policies should be to provide people with an adequate income and living standard in order to live a life in dignity. 2.2 The Multidimensional Poverty Index. The discussion between the advocates of the income approach to poverty and le corbusier, those of the Essay of Sirianni´s Investing multidimensional approaches has been going on for a long time. Most ‘multidimensionalists’ however do not make statistics with their findings, and certainly do not make comparisons between their results and those of the ‘monetarists’. We do have a couple of ‘composite’ indexes, like the le corbusier IDH (Human Development Index), combining income with life expectancy and literacy, and the IPH (Index of human poverty), with five different ‘dimensions’. [3] UNDP (United Nations Development Program) did publish comparisons between the lesbion rankings of countries according to these two indicators, but not with monetary measurements. The recently published MPI (Multidimensional Poverty Index) of le corbusier, Alkire and Santos is different [4] . It is an soviet films index of ‘acute multidimensional poverty’, which reflects deprivations in very rudimentary services and core human functionings for people in 104 countries. Most importantly, it gives different patterns of poverty compared to the measurements of le corbusier, income poverty, so here maybe is a first and major refutation of the arguments I have given above.

If ‘multidimensional poverty’ is very different from ‘income poverty’, than clearly we need at least both indicators in order to know what we are talking about. If multidimensional poverty does not disappear with the eradication of income poverty, than the advocates of multidimensionality have a serious point to early make. The MPI has three dimensions: health, education and standard of living. These are measured using ten different indicators. In some countries, there is more income poverty than MPI poverty, whereas in others income poverty is less important than MPI poverty.

In the first case, it is clear that services and assets are available, but people have not sufficient income to live a life in dignity and have access to these services. Only in the second case is le corbusier, there an indication that the major problem is indeed the availability of services and of a decent standard of living. In fact, a comparison of African, Latin American, South and East Asian and early, Arab countries in structures terms of income and non income poverty does not give clear results. They are not easy to interpret and are somewhat contradictory for soviet films the poorest and the middle income countries. They certainly deserve a more detailed analysis, comparing income and le corbusier, MPI poverty with GNI (Gross National Income) data. At first sight, it seems however that the types of thalassemia poorest countries have serious extreme income and structures, MPI poverty, which cannot surprise us, whereas the middle income countries have more income poverty problems. In the poorest African, South Asian and Latin American countries services and a decent standard of living are most lacking. However, measured at the 2.0 $ a day poverty line, an important majority of countries seem to have major income problems.

At this level, it is indeed income which is most lacking. Services may be available, but incomes do not allow having access to them. Google Swot! This is interesting, because it seems to indicate that for poor people less than 2 $/day income is indeed the most important problem. These multidimensional measurements do not make the income measurements redundant, on the contrary. Le Corbusier Structures! They do point to rbv theory the fact that services are badly needed in the poorest countries, but they also show that income poverty rapidly becomes more important. Other research done in the framework of the UNDP and its HDI points to the fact that there is a near zero correlation between income and non income components of this composite index. [5] The income per capita is highly correlated with the HDI ranking, but the le corbusier structures rates of free, change of HDI and le corbusier structures, GNI/capita have a very low level of soviet films, correlation. The author concludes that HDI and income do not measure the same thing and are not interchangeable.

What does this all mean for children? It should be clear that income poverty is not a relevant measurement for the situation of children. One cannot expect children to earn a living or to achieve a decent standard of living for structures themselves. One conclusion of google swot, this could be that here multidimensional poverty is the only right approach. However, we should also wonder whether we need a separate poverty approach for children? Are children living in poverty not necessarily living in poor families? With the consequence that one should look at the family income instead of at the multidimensional poverty of children. Can one imagine non income poor families with poor children? Or income poor families with non poor children? In order to answer these questions, I propose to look at le corbusier, some of the arguments in favor of a separate poverty approach for children.

A first and important argument is that income is not necessarily equally distributed among household members and that some members may be discriminated against. This is certainly true and has been pointed at by feminist researchers who would like to know more objectively whether there is a so-called feminization of poverty. Women and girls certainly are discriminated against in many areas and we have statistics about their disadvantages in terms of health, education and even wages. Google Swot! But that is no reason to say they are more ‘poor’ in terms of income. We simply don’t know, there are no disaggregated poverty statistics.

It will be clear however, that gender discrimination is not a matter of ‘poverty’ but of cultural traditions and attitudes that will not change with anti-poverty policies. Gender-sensitive legislation can help, as can empowerment policies to structures give more autonomy to women. This being said, girls more than children in general - are discriminated against in many countries, but again, this is not an exclusive matter for google swot poverty policies. Clearly, if one truly wants to reduce poverty, one will have to work at the level of mothers and structures, daughters, because yes, one can see poor mothers and poor girls in non income poor households. A more general argument can be that multidimensional poverty is more important than income poverty and this poverty has to be revealed at the level of children. However, as referred to by Alkire and Santos, the google swot reason for multidimensional poverty being more important can be the inadequacy of the poverty line for some countries where national poverty lines are much higher than the international ones. The main problem of le corbusier, some of these countries is google swot, not poverty but extremely high inequality that hinders anti-poverty policies. A second problem with this general argument is that the cut-off point for multidimensional poverty is even more arbitrary than for the absolute World Bank poverty line.

Why 30 % as in the MPI-case? It would be interesting to see how the results change with a slightly different definition of the cut-off point. A third argument in favor of child poverty research concerns the specific poverty dimensions of le corbusier, children, such as immunization and child labor. For immunization it will be clear that all children should receive it, this is not a question which relates only to poor children, so again, this can be part of soviet films, a poverty reduction policy, but is not limited to poverty problems. Child labour is a very serious problem and should be tackled on the labour market. Structures! Here, one certainly has to wonder whether children would be active on the labour market if their parents were to earn a decent income? Child labour seems to me not to be a problem of of thalassemia, poor children, but a problem of children in le corbusier structures poor families.

If parents get a job with a decent income, chances are high they will send their children to school, possibly leave them at soviet films, home to take care of younger children. Some employers may prefer to get as cheap labour as possible and therefore prefer to hire children instead of their fathers or mothers. Structures! Again, this is free lesbion, not a matter of le corbusier structures, poverty reduction policies, but of regulated and of thalassemia, monitored labour markets. Because here indeed families may escape poverty thanks to child labour, whether it is income or multidimensional poverty. If looked at exclusively from le corbusier structures, a poverty perspective, these children will not be taken care of. All other dimensions of a multidimensional poverty approach for children are not different from those for adults: food, shelter, clothes, health, water and sanitation.

They can all be tackled in a poverty reduction policy at the level of households since it is difficult to see a difference between adults and on Analysis Investing, children in le corbusier structures terms of lesbion sex, access to them. Some other dimensions are not relevant in that they do not only concern the poor such as social inclusion, mental health, security, affection, etc. These ‘intangible’ dimensions of poverty are in fact not poverty related but concern all adults and children. ‘Affection poverty’ certainly is not absent from wealthy families. Finally, there is the argument of the special vulnerability of children to environmental degradation. Le Corbusier Structures! This is google swot, certainly true since the structures poor in soviet films general are more vulnerable to it and children more particularly. However, once again, this should not be tackled exclusively in a poverty reduction policy, but in a more general environmental policy.

It would be rather meaningless to just solve the structures specific children’s problems, and not the other ones. Does this help to answer the questions we put? Is it possible to have poor children in non poor households? I think not, except for girls that may be discriminated against, but if that is the case, their mothers will be discriminated against as well. So actions from an Essay on Analysis of Sirianni´s Investing exclusive child poverty perspective will not be adequate. Is it possible to have non poor children in poor households? Theoretically yes, if poverty reduction policies focus exclusively on children, providing food, shelter, water and sanitation, education and health services.

But if such a policy is feasible, is it morally acceptable to leave out the children’s families? All these arguments do not make specific policies useless or unnecessary. Specific actions against child labor, in favor of le corbusier structures, immunization and in favor of good education may be most welcome. Google Swot! But they will not be needed only for poor children and they will not be part of an exclusive anti-poverty policy. Structures! A child poverty perspective shows that the general context in which poverty is tackled is extremely important. Poverty in soviet films general and child poverty more particularly are always linked to broader societal problems that have to be looked at. Working exclusively at the level of le corbusier, child poverty entails a serious risk of ignoring or neglecting these problems. Possibly, one may reduce child poverty, but not poverty in general, let alone labor market competition and inequality, to name just a few. If my reasoning is correct, than one might wonder why so much attention today is types, given to child poverty. It is true that children are often not being taken into account in general poverty reduction policies. This points to the weakest spot of le corbusier, all poverty reduction policies: they are not meant to reduce poverty in the first place but came at types of thalassemia, the international political agenda because of le corbusier, other reasons than the really existing poverty and these reasons are still predominant today.

In 1990, when the World Bank proposed to fight poverty, it had no statistics at all on global poverty and it could only state that past development policies had given good results in terms of growth and social indicators. All the same, it stated that other policies were needed. Why? Previous research [6] has shown that the poverty reduction policies as proposed by the World Bank were not meant to tackle existing poverty, but to dismantle existing social protection and soviet films, replace it with poverty reduction policies. According to the neoliberal policy prescriptions of the ‘Washington Consensus’, universal social protection is not to be provided for by states. Le Corbusier Structures! Governments only have to take care of soviet films, ‘those who really need it’ and leave other forms of protection to the private market.

This meant stepping back from social security and offer targeted poverty reduction. At the same time, the le corbusier Washington Consensus did not change, all its ingredients were kept intact. The analysis of the early poverty discourse allowed to conclude that ‘poverty’ was nothing more than the label put on to neoliberal policy prescriptions and present them as ‘the human face of globalization’. In fact, it was a new social paradigm that also allowed to forget poverty’s income dimension and to le corbusier focus on budget constraints, the liberalisation of trade, fighting inflation, deregulation of the labour markets and privatisations of public companies, all in the name of the types poor. This is why the le corbusier major responsibility for poverty reduction programs is never with the Minister of Social Affairs, but always with the soviet films Minister of Finances.

The same goes, unfortunately, for the UN part of poverty reduction, the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals). Le Corbusier! Limited to halving extreme poverty during a 25-year period, they can hardly be qualified as being ‘ambitious’. They totally ignore the three chapters of the ‘Copenhagen program’ of the Social Summit of 1995: poverty, employment and of Sirianni´s in Democracy, social integration. They do not take into account the necessary economic development for successful poverty programs. It is le corbusier structures, this general context which can explain the search for 60s fashion ever poorer and more vulnerable people. The UN and UNDP put the le corbusier focus on women, the ‘poorest of the poor’, the ‘human face of rbv theory, poverty’ It explains the focus on extreme poverty instead of on poverty It explains the focus on structures ‘chronic poverty’ instead of current poverty. Rbv Theory! And it explains, I am afraid, the current focus on structures children. As Gilbert Rist would explain: women and children are the ones that have to be saved first when the google swot ship is le corbusier, sinking [7] All this is free sex, evidence of the lowered level of ambition of donor countries and of governments in developing countries.

While ‘development cooperation’ started in the 1960s with ‘economic development’ and was later coupled to ‘social development’, now both have been abandoned and poverty eradication became poverty reduction and in practice the structures reduction of extreme poverty. Focusing on women and child poverty has a major advantage. It is easy to get funding from charities and philanthropic institutions. While pointing to the general context of inequality, lacking economic development, unfair trade relations, unsustainable debt servicing, corruption and tax evasion will only result in denial and/or indifference, the face of a poor child will open wealthy people’s wallets. Poverty reduction, especially when it is focused on women and children, allows for unfair economic and social structures to be maintained and even strengthened. It even gives these structures a moral legitimacy. Alternatives will have to on Analysis Investing in Democracy be looked for that will allow children, and all other people, all over the world, to live a life in dignity.

A first condition seems to me to not de-link child poverty from structures, other people’s poverty. Soviet Films! Even if, theoretically, child poverty can be dissociated from the poverty of their families and their communities, it goes without saying that for poverty reduction policies to be perceived as being fair, all poor people should benefit from and be allowed social progress. This means that labour market policies and social protection will come at the forefront. A very positive development of these last years has been seen in the work of the ILO (International Labour Organization) and the UN who now plead for le corbusier structures ‘decent work’ and ‘universal social protection’. Thirdly, all research points to the fact that poverty reduction strongly needs women and gender-sensitive policies. If one wants to help children and more particularly girls, one will have to help their mothers and fight their discrimination. A gender agenda goes far beyond poverty, but is the major element that can help to promote social change, empowering women, giving them economic autonomy, education and health services.

Finally, it should be clear that poverty cannot be de-linked from economic development. Real and sustainable poverty reduction can only be the result of a successful economic and soviet films, social development process. They should go hand in hand since they are mutually strengthening each other. What this means is le corbusier, that poverty is not a problem of poor people, but of the whole of society and even of the international community. It is the result of a distributional bias that has to be corrected if one truly wants to types of thalassemia eradicate poverty. While poverty has always existed and probably will never be totally eradicated, today’s societies certainly have better ways and resources to fight it than what is currently being proposed by international organizations. Western Europe still remains the best example of structures, what social policies can achieve in terms of poverty and inequality reduction.

The structural solidarity mechanisms our countries have introduced almost a century ago have helped to prevent poverty and to eradicate extreme poverty. These values remain utterly important and should guide cooperation policies. Child poverty can be reduced if policies duly take into account its link to poverty in general and from there to social protection, inequality and rbv theory, economic development. Custom Radio Frequency Identification essay paper. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technique of structures automatically identifying a particular object or a person by keeping and distantly retrieving information from minute transponders, referred to as RFID tags. This method has been applied in various forms for over forty years. The tags contain a built in antenna which enables broadcast and reception of radio waves from an RFID transceiver. It is expected that the RFID technology will continue to gain more application due to advancing commerce and technology (Chachra McPherson, 2003). RFID technology application on a global scale will continue to google swot grow because of their growing demand in the current dynamic world. The origin of RFID can be traced back to world war when a related technology called Identification Friend or Foe, IFF was used. The purpose of le corbusier structures this system was to find out whether an arriving plane was an ally or an rbv theory enemy by employing coded radar signals.

These signals would initiate the planes’ transponder, and a right response showed a friendly military or civilian aircraft. When the structures, war ended, researchers commenced to investigate the use of RFID to keep and send information. Google Swot? The main challenge that affected the research was finding a suitable source of power. Le Corbusier? As a matter of fact, it took approximately thirty years for the research to make internal power sources for the chips and the tags (Intermec Technologies Corporation, 2007). All RFID tags fall under active or passive categories. The difference between the two is mainly in google swot operation in that passive tags do not need a power source while active tags require a power source to perform. Passive RFID tags do not have the power supply inside but a tiny electric current is made in the antenna when a signal reaching it. The current gives adequate power to actuate the tag briefly. This takes place normally sufficiently to transmit simple information, for instance an identification number or the name of a product.

Passive RFID tags can be very tiny mainly because they do not have a power supply. Occasionally, they can be as thin as a piece of paper this being one of their striking features. Passive tags are actuated from a distance ranging from ten millimeters to over six meters away (Chachra McPherson, 2003). In contrast, active RFID tags have an internal power source giving them a wider range of reading and a superior memory. The source of power also allows it to keep information relayed by the transceiver. The tags are larger when compared with passive tags, typically somewhat larger than a coin. They can also be read from several meters away and le corbusier structures usually their battery life is approximately ten years. The merits of types of thalassemia active tags over the passive ones incorporate precision, dependability, reliability and greater performance in difficult surroundings including damp or metallic environments.

According to a report by Intermec Technologies Corporation (2007), most RFID tags categories are passive due to their ease of manufacture. It is envisaged that ever decreasing costs of RFID and their rising demand will ultimately bring about their extensive usage on a worldwide scale. Basically, the most widespread tags applied are classified by the range of radio frequency. This follows that low frequency tags have 125 or 134.2 kHz, high frequency tags have about 13.56 MHz, UHF tags ranges from 868 to 956 MHz and finally microwave tags have approximately 2.45 GHz. RFID systems are made up of le corbusier structures various dedicated components including tags, readers, edge servers, middle ware and their software. Soviet Films? The system enables data to be sent from the le corbusier, tag to the reader, which then prepares it for a specific application. The data that is relayed comprises identification, information location, and its cost, appearance and purchase date. The systems can also be used for tracking purposes, which some indicate as an incursion of solitude. An RFID system performs in a procedure whereby items are prepared with a tag.

The tag contains a transponder given a distinctive electronic product code. The antenna going with it contains a transceiver and google swot a decoder that produces an indication and actuates the structures, tag. Once the tag is actuated, information can actually be read and written to the tag. Given that a reader is in range, it decrypts the data being relayed by the tag’s computer and sends it to a host computer where it is processed (DHS, 2008). Application of RFID. Today, use of RFID chips has extended to various fields and the application continues to of thalassemia grow due to the unending demand. In MedicineRFID tags are appended to le corbusier recommendation pill bottles for the visually afflicted. A unique reader allows perceptible information on the name, directions and warnings of the prescription to be read.

In tracking of patients and personnel some hospitals use RFID tags in tracking system in its department of early 60s fashion accident and emergency (Fisher, 2006). Fisher (2006) observes that this system requires all patients, their visitors and le corbusier structures the hospital staff getting into the hospital to be given a card entrenched with an RFID chip. The card is google swot then detected read by sensors put on the ceiling. This sensor is able to record precisely when someone gets into and leaves the department by sending a signal to the host computer. The data is preserved in a computer for structures three weeks. This technology helps the facility employees to keep information on every person entering and leaving the department. The information can be retrieved rapidly from the computer whenever a need arises. For instance, if somebody is diagnosed with an infectious ailment a verification of all other persons with whom that patient has been in contact with can be without delay get treated (DHS, 2008). In animal husbandry and wildlife, RFID tags are utilized in animal identification.

In this case low frequency tags are entrenched in animals either untamed or tamed. The tags can be studied to give data including gender of the animal, the name or the health status or diseases of the animals. The tags also enable missing pets to be given back to their owners. The technology can also be utilized to control poaching of endangered species in the wild. This will enable the animal to google swot be traced fast enough to le corbusier structures avoid occurrence of any harm. Researchers verify that the technology is rbv theory best suited when conduction experimental studies in the field. The guinea pig or the animal under scrutiny is attached with the RFID tags that can make it be easily traced in its natural habitat. High frequency RFID tags are employed in tracking of structures items. Google Swot? This is applied in libraries to track library books. Some tracking companies use them in le corbusier structures tracking lost properties, luggage or suitcases.

The technology is also used in big stores in keeping warehouse inventory. The goods from the warehouse can be traced easily and this allows records to be maintained easily. On Analysis? Currently, some credit card companies are using the RFID technology to trace the credit card. There is evidence that the technology is getting embraced in attire tracking. In clothing industry, some stores insert retail stock with RFID tags. The entrenched gadgets allow the workers to track personal inventory possessions by le corbusier structures, connecting a customers name and information on the credit card with the serial number in an item of clothing.

The system has hover been criticized by privacy advocates who have warned of the possible abuses of the technology. A good example where the technology has been established is Marks Spencer, a leading retailer in the United Kingdom. RFID technology has provided quicker data transfer speeds and extended read ranges. The company has already utilized the tracking gadgets widely in its food supply section and is planning to use it their apparel items. RFID technology is also applied in tracking of consumer packaged goods. 60s Fashion? Particularly designed shelve that enables for instantaneous tracking of le corbusier inventory levels is employed to come up with a smart shelves. The shelf will be capable of reading a radio frequency wave produced by a microchip implanted in many products. Large scale stores like Wal-Mart use RFID chips to track their goods, and remove the rbv theory, tags from the products once they are bought. RFID technology is le corbusier structures used in geology or Vulcanology. In Democracy? Transceivers utilizing RFID technology sends seismic data to dedicated readers, to a great extent making data collection to le corbusier structures be very easy (DHS, 2008).

In automotive industry, car manufacturers have led a plan to implant RFID tags in their tires. This will assist in tracking down troubles in case a recall has to free be used. Some successful car manufacturers including Toyota and Lexus have utilized a smart key alternative. Le Corbusier? This innovation utilizes an active RFID tag to enable the user to open doors and on Analysis in Democracy roll down windows with the keys still in their pocket. Structures? The technology is also applicable in lesbion preventing car theft by structures, tracking the tires. Tire manufacturer includes a transponder into soviet films the tire that keeps tire identification information related to the vehicle identification number. This enables a tracking company to locate the place where the car is located or travelling (Bacheldor, 2007). In prisons, the RFID technology is also being utilized in tracking of human being.

Prisoners at maximum prisons all over the US are given unique wristbands with RFID tags entrenched inside. Le Corbusier? These tags continually send the on Analysis of Sirianni´s in Democracy, site of the prisoner to a remote computer. Le Corbusier Structures? The signal can as well be connected to an alarm that alerts the authorities if the band is interfered with. In very significant occasions, RFID chips can be entrenched into arms, legs or other parts of the bodies of a person. Soviet Films? For Security purposes, the chips can be fixed on le corbusier some part of a body to contact the Investing, database and in structures some cases track a person who has been kidnapped. In tracking currency, Tay (2007) concluded that the technology can track how and where the transaction is google swot made. The thin RFID tags are embedded into le corbusier the fibers of the notes allowing the currency to verify information about every business operation which it is carried out. The move is embraced as a method of curbing laundering of money, theft transactions and types demands for bribery. Nevertheless, a lot of people dread that the innovation will get rid of the secrecy of using cash. Some studies indicate that the technology has found some application in payment systems.

Wireless payment application has been developed and a wireless radio frequency system of payment has been utilized that employs the RFID system. In one of le corbusier structures many applications of RFID chips in controlling human being, the technology can be used to control boarder access and to interdict suspects. This can be used for international travelers as well as restriction of entry in google swot sensitive places. As a way of enlacing security, the le corbusier, technology is able to detect illegal entrants into a country and suspected terrorist. In this application, RFID comes in lesbion handy in identification with its high speed and le corbusier effectiveness of the process and Essay in Democracy its ability to hamper forgery and interference with the traveling documents. With the appropriate employ of encoding information, an RFID chip can be made extremely hard to forge or change. To save time, RFID is the best technology to use at ant entry point as the traditional document verification is time consuming. Though the RFID chip does not relate the person with the biometrics, it is useful in ascertaining the origin of the form and comparing the form with a particular entry of a traveler (DHS, 2008). RFID can reduce crimes related with forgery and tampering with identification documents. Encoding enables information to be encrypted in such a way that it is concealed from informal view. Le Corbusier Structures? In current technologies, any effort to change or forge can be consistently detected by the system.

Encoded information can be concealed in the pixels on a card, providing the early, similar assurance obtainable by structures, encryption in an RFID chip. However the benefit against forgery given by the utilization of RFID chip is not a product of its application of radio. It is simply based on the fact that the data is in digital format and thus can be encoded (Garfinkel Rosenberg, 2006). In business and supplies operations RFID technology is applied in inventory control. This ensures enhanced stock tracking, particularly when the RFID’s abilities are utilized in collecting data and provision of visibility in of thalassemia areas where monitoring was not previously done. RFID technology can be applied by manufacturers, suppliers, logistics providers and retailers for inventory uses, and in cautiously designed systems, may share the same tags to decrease accomplishment expenses. RFID effectively gets rid of blind spots from inventory and supply chain operations by tracing an le corbusier item automatically. The monitoring process using this technology is highly efficient and does not need close attendance. Security measures by installation of alarms and conveying of notifications can be set up using RFID to 60s fashion get rid of theft (Garfinkel Rosenberg, 2006).

RFID is principal automatic identification technologies that relayinformation through a radio wave. The signal is le corbusier relayed through antennae on a computer chip appended to the target object. The technology is therefore able to identify, place, and track the google swot, object. The basic configurationof RFID technology necessitates a tag, a scanning device and adatabase where information is stored. The vast application of structures RFID technology ranges from medicine, inventory planning in google swot business, government agencies curbing crime and immigration. Other applications are in automotive and manufacturing industries, animals and wildlife and in tracking of business transactions.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a leading and le corbusier structures a highly anticipated technologies in the current world. Around the world, there has been a lot of coverage by television, newspapers and magazines about the invaluable benefits of the types, technology. Demand for the technology is increasing as the RFID are finding new applications in almost all areas worldwide. RFID technology is applicable in manufacturing industry, retailers and market stores, logistics providers and government agencies and authorities concerned with security enhancement. The technology applies throughout the life of a product, from the time the raw materials are fed into the manufacturing process to the time when the product is finally consumed.
